Mark Melmer is a managing member of Benjamin & Melmer, LLC. Mr. Melmer began his legal career prosecuting domestic violence crimes for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. During his nearly four years as a prosecutor, Mr. Melmer successfully prosecuted thousands of domestic violence cases at the misdemeanor and felony level. These domestic violence cases involved juvenile and adult defendants charged with crimes ranging from simple assault and battery to armed burglaries, armed robberies, kidnapping, sex offenses and other violent crimes. In addition to actively prosecuting domestic violence cases, Mr. Melmer also served as a supervising attorney in the Domestic Violence Unit of the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. As a supervising attorney, Mr. Melmer was responsible for the daily oversight of 10 other domestic violence prosecutors. Mr. Melmer ensured that all the domestic violence cases assigned to his division were properly handled from the filing decision all the way to trial. Mr. Melmer’s experience in the domestic violence unit of the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office gives him a unique understanding of how that office makes filing decisions, negotiates plea agreements and determines what cases to pursue all the way to trial.
Since joining Benjamin & Melmer, LLC., Mr. Melmer has prosecuted and defended numerous domestic violence injunctions and successfully represented countless individuals charged with domestic violence crimes.
Mr. Melmer graduated magna cum laude in 2004 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA., where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and minor in History. In 2007, he earned his Juris Doctorate from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, FL, where he graduated cum laude and finished in the top 10% of his class.
Mr. Melmer is a member in good standing of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in all circuit courts throughout the State. Mr. Melmer is also active with Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club and a member of History Miami and the Dade County Bar Association.
